Asserting that foolproof security arrangements have been made in Kashmir for incident free and successful Republic Day celebrations, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar appealed general public to take part in the functions.
"Security forces have been put on high alert across Kashmir valley. Foolproof security arrangements have been made for the Republic Day function to make it incident free and successful," the IGP told reports on the sideline of full dress rehearsal at S K Stadium, where the main function of RD will be held in Kashmir.
"I appeal the general public to take part in the Republic Day function," he added.
He said security forces have intensified counter-militancy operations from last couple of weeks in the valley following which many militants have been killed and some have been arrested.
Answering a question whether there was any threat perception in the city in view of RD function, he said security forces are fully prepared to counter any militant attacks. "Even on normal days security forces are on alert in the city to foil any attempts by militants to create disturbance. But, during RD and ID functions, extra precautions are made," he said.
He said checkpoints have been established at various places and vehicles are being checked while passengers are being frisked before allowing them to move ahead.
Security forces have been put on high alert in Kashmir valley, where Republic Day (RD) is being celebrated on Sunday for the first time after centre scrapped Article 370 and 35 A, besides downgraded the state and divided it into two Union Territories (UTs) on August 5.
